FLAGSTAFF SHELTER SERVICES

OUR MISSION:

Flagstaff Shelter Services saves and changes the lives of homeless individuals by offering them shelter and pathways into lives of dignity that benefit the community. We are focused on the most critical group, chronically homeless individuals, many of whom have serious psychiatric or substance abuse issues.

Since inception over 7 years ago the Flagstaff Shelter Services has provided overnight emergency services during the harshest winter months: Oct -April. The rest of the year we provide day services which offer showers, laundry, internet and computer access, and food. Year round we offer a no fee health clinic twice a week.

This year with the fire danger so high in the Coconino County Forest a concerned individual provided additional funding so that we could reopen the overnight services through July. A week later a local FSS supporter sponsored the staffing cost associated with covering the mid-day shift used to offer all day shelter services to our disabled and elderly clients. This past week we had the following using our Med bed services an 87 yr old woman, two women in their late 60's with several health issues, a female victim of domestic violence who needed some time to stabilize emotionally.
Our desire is to stay open all year. We have been running at capacity every night since we reopened. Many of our clients are elderly, disabled, sick, or victims in crisis. We need about 12 more weeks of staffing and related expenses sponsored to stay open all of 2014.
Our overnight staffing cost are approximately $14,500 month, Med bed / Mid-day shift is approximately $1100 a month. With the reopening for overnight services our cost for laundry has increase an additional $500 a month to cover the extra cost of washing linens and blanket sanitizing for the beds and cots, cleaning supplies and other client related cost have also increased back up to "winter" month levels. If you or anyone you know would like to sponsor a week or a month in any of these related services please contact Lori at 928-526-0581 or lbarlow@flagshelter.org
